Son and heir to Sir William de Ros/Roos and Lucy FitzPeter. Grandson of Magna Carta Baron Robert de Ros and Isabel of Scotland, Peter FitzHubert of Breconshire and Alice FitzRobert, daughter of Robert FitzRoger. Robert was born before 1237, as he was at full age at his father's death in 1258/ or 1264. Sir Robert married Isabel d'Aubeney, daughter and heiress of Sir William d'Aubeney of Belvoir and his second wife, Isabel. They married between 05 June 1243 and 17 May 1244, and had five sons and three daughters: * Sir William, Lord Roos of Helmsley * Robert * John * Nicholas, cleric * Peter, cleric * Isabel, wife of Lord Walter de Fauconberge * Joan, wife of Lord John Lovel * Mary, wife of Sir Lord William de Brewes Sir Robert obtained a free warren from Henry III for his lordship of Belvoir in 1257, and the licence for a weekly market as well as an annual fair for three days on the feast of St John the Baptist in 1261. He was summoned to Parliament in 1264, then sided with the rebel barons with Simon de Montfort, defeating King Henry III at the Battle of Lewes in 1264, but received a full pardon after the Battle of Evesham at the captured Prince Edward's orders while attending as Edward's guardian at Hungerford Castle. Sir Robert received his licence to crenellate and fortify Belvoir with dike against the Welsh in 1267. Sir Robert died testate 17 May 1285, buried at Kirkham and his bowels at the high altar at Belvoir Prioy, Lincolnshire. In 1295 the Prior of Belvoir complained that Isabel and her son led a group who assaulted his men and took away corn and beasts at Redmile and Belvoir.
