Mr. Erie “Dale” Cunningham, age 94, of Murray, KY died Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Henry County Healthcare Center in Paris, TN.
He was born to the late Erie Dalton Cunningham and Beatrice Thomas Cunningham, April 14, 1922, in Hamlin, KY.
Dale was a disabled veteran, serving with distinction in the World War II European Theatre, where he earned several medals, including the Purple Heart and an EAME Ribbon with Bronze Star. He was a retired steel worker from National Steel Company and a 3rd Degree Master Mason with the Masonic Lodge of Dearborn, MI. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Glendale Road Church of Christ.
Preceding him in death were his wife of forty years, Armella Dallas Cunningham; his parents; his brothers, Rudy Eugene Cunningham, Lloyd Thomas Cunningham, and Alfred Cullen Cunningham; his sister, Mable Cunningham Blalock; his stepson, Gerald R. Dallas; one grandson, Sean Michael Thomas; and one great grandson, Hubert Lanny Thomas.
Survivors include his wife of twenty years, Geraldine Darnall Thomas Cunningham; one daughter Linda Dallas Cunningham Erhart and husband, Bill, DeBary, FL; a daughter in law, SoSun Dallas, Puyallup, WA; three stepsons, Edward Thomas and wife, Anita, Greensboro, NC, Kenneth Thomas and wife, Dianne, Summerville, SC, Michael Thomas and wife, Phyllis, Rolling Hills Estates, CA; one stepdaughter, Sherri Thomas Austin, Chesapeake, VA; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The funeral service will be at 12 Noon Thursday at the Blalock-Coleman & York Funeral Home with John Dale officiating. Burial will follow in the Murray Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit the family from 10:00am to 12:00 Noon Thursday at the Blalock-Coleman & York Funeral Home.
