Rubye Layton (Herring) Blair was born on July 29, 1913 in Sumner County, Tennessee, the daughter of Arthur Hasting Herring Sr (1871–1960) and Lucile Beverly "Lucy" (Kemp) Herring (1874–1926).
By the time of the 1940 census she was married as the 1st wife of Corporal Paul Elihu Blair (1908–1973).
A department store saleslady and living at 1020 Maxwell Avenue in Nashville, Ruby was 30 years old and married when she died of uterine cancer on February 15, 1944 at a hospital in Nashville after being ill for a year.
Survivors included her husband - who was a corporal in the US Army and stationed at Nashville Army Air Center - her father A H Herring in Nashville, sisters Mrs Lela Parker of Nashville, Mrs Pat Rutherford and Mrs Dan Joslin of Atlanta, Georgia and brothers Horace Herring of Atlanta and A H Herring Jr in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Funeral Services were held at Burkitt, Son & Cullum Funeral Home on February 17th, and burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery in Madison

A native of Naahville, Mrs. Blair was educated In Nashville schools and was a member of the First Independent Church. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Besides her husband, Mrs Blair leaves her father, A H Herring, Nashville; three sisters, Mrs. Lela Parker, Nashville, Mrs Pat Rutherford, Atlanta, and Mrs Dan Joslin, Atlanta, and two brothers, Horace Herring, Atlanta, and A H Herring, Jr., Cincinnati.

Funeral services for Mrs Grace Herring McPherson, 37, wife of Andrew P. McPherson, who died at her home, 112 Rosebank avenue, Saturday afternoon, will be conducted at 10 o'clock this morning at the funeral home of Phillips, Robinson and Company at 2707 Gallatin Road. The Rev. EM McMillan will officiate, and burial will be in Spring Hill cemetery.
Mrs McPherson was a native of Gallatin, but had lived in Nashville for tha greater part of her life. She had been ill about nine weeks at the time of her death. She attended the Tulip Street Methodist Church.
Besides her Husband, she is survived by one daughter, Katherine McPherson; two sons, Andrew H Jr and Billie McPherson; her father, AH Herring; four sister, Miss Ruby Herring, and Mrs Dan Joslin, this city; Mrs H S Rutherford, Atlanta, Ga, and Mrs Lela Wooton, Raleigh, NC; two brothers, FH Herring, Cincinnati, O and Arthur H Herring, Nashville.
Pallbearers will be: Joseph McPherson, HS Rutherford, DE Joslin, AW Lynell, GW Elkins, and Hugh Hailey
