A. Brookes (Aged 77). R. A. Brookes Dies at Age 77 In Higganum HADDAM (Special) Robert A. Brookes, 77, of Dublin Road, Higganum, former postmaster and first chief of the Haddam Volunteer Fire Department, died at his home Monday afternoon. He also was a former member of the Board of Education. Mr. Brookes served as postmaster in Higganum for 25 years, retiring in I960 He was a lifelong Higganum resident, a member of Granite Lodge, AFandAM and a member of the Higganum Congre- He leaves his wife, Mrs. Wilhelmina Hart Brookes; a daughter. Mrs. Elizabeth E. Scovil of North Haven; two step-daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Hyams of New York City and Mrs. Campbell Koehn of Duneden, Fla.; three brothers, Fred E. Brookes of Ivoryton, and Arthur W. and Whitney K. Brookes, both of Higganum; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Middletown, Thurs day at 11 a.m. The Rev. David B. Kinney, minister of the Higganum Congregational Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Higganum Cemetery.
