A 12 weeks' illness of paralysls caused the death Wednesday of Gus Smith, 44, farmer of the Indian Mound, in Stewart county, who was buried In the family cemetery Friday.
He was a native of Montgomery county and was a brother of Harry Smith, deputy county court clerk. Mr. Smith was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mack Smith.
Surviving are his widow who was Mis Viola Bryant; two sons, Vernle of Indian Mound, and another, nine-year-old; six brothers, Lurton Smith, Miami Fla.; Allen Smith, Dickson, Harry, Clarksville: Walter and Will Smith, Stewart county; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Bryant, Mrs. Emma Bryant and Mrs. A. Vaughan, all of Indian Mound. Mr. Smith was a member of the Methodist church and enjoyed a wide acquaintance.

L.E. Smith Graveside services for Lurton E. Smith, 68, retired carpenter of 2907 White Oak Lane, Knoxville, Tenn, will be conducted Tuesday at 12 noon at Greenwood Cemetery by the Rev. John D. Laida. The body is at McReynolds Funeral Home until the hour of service.
Mr. Smith died suddenly Saturday at his home.
He was a native of Montgomery County, son of the late McFerrin and Blanche Smith. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Minnie Allen Smith; a son, Bill Smith, Connecticut; a daughter, Mrs. Jennie Seivers, Attica, Ind; a half-brother, Frank Allen, Chapmansboro, Tenn.
Pallbearers will be John Allen, Arno Schmidt, John Bailey, Frank McDonald, Jr, Arlon Hefnoon Sr, Grady Baggett, and Mack Vaughn.

She had spent the past three winters here. She is survived by six other sons. James B. Allen, Biloxi, Miss.; Frank B. Allen, Cheatham county, Tennessee; Harry M. Smith, Clarksville; Mack Ferin Smith and Allen Smith Nashville: Lurtin E. Smith, Knoxville; a daughter, Mrs. Amber L. Vaughn, Clarksville; two brothers. Earnest Payne, Robertson county, Tennessee, and Robert Payne. Clarksville.
The body will be sent to Clarksville by the Joseph P. McGhan home for services and burial.

Mr Smith was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, son of the lateMcFern and Mattie Smith. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs Annie Shrader Smith; seven sons, Lewis F Smith, Cedar Hill, Tenn, Jesse H, Clinton H, Harlons, JW, William D, and Robert E Smith, all of Clarksville; three daughters, Mrs Bracy Bryant, Clarkesville, Mrs John Parker, Needmore Community, Mrs Sam Shemwell; Clarksville; two half brothers, McFern Smith, Nashville, Lurton Smith, Knoxville; a half sister, Mrs AB Vaughn, Clarksville; 32 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

- [S1759] Civil War Pension Application, Mack Ferrin Smith Confederate Soldier's Pension Application.
Mack Ferrin (McFerrin) Smith enlisted in the Confederate States Army on May 31, 1861 at the age of 18. He served in L Company of 14TH TENNESSEE INFANTRY REGIMENT as a private, corporal and a sergeant. He fought in all the Battles of the 14th until he was wounded and captured at Gettysburg on July 3, 1863. He was treated for his wounds (he was hit by grape shot in the leg) while in prison. In September 1863, he was paroled at Chester, Pennsylvania. On December 1, 1863, he was furloughed from service at Richmond, Virginia.
