  [S9457] Find a Grave: CRAWFORD Sarah Brechin 1666-1753, Sarah Crawford Poindexter Brechin. Sarah Crawford was born on May 12, 1666 in James City County. She was the daughter of Col. David Crawford (Crafford) of New Kent County. He was a prosperous planter, a member of the House of Burgesses in 1692 and 1693, and the son of Sir John Crawford (Crafford). David and John had immigrated to Virginia about 1643 from Ayrshire, Scotland. On May 21, 1691, David deeded 500 acres in New Kent County to Sarah. That gift could have been in anticipation of her pending marriage. Soon after that gift, she married Thomas Poindexter, son of George, who was the owner of Christ's Cross, another prosperous plantation in New Kent County. From court records, it is learned that the couple had five children, and that Thomas had died by 1706 or 1707. Soon after Thomas' death, Sarah married the Rev. James Brechin, a prominent Anglican minister, and had children with him also. Sarah's will was proved in Louisa County on March 27, 1753. In it, she named nine children, John & Thomas Poindexter, William & James Brechin, Susanna Snead, Elizabeth Shrewsberry, Sarah Rice, Ann Rutherford and Jean Ireland.
