Barbara J. Barton, 79, of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Barnes Jewish Hospital, in St Louis, MO.
She was born on April 3, 1944, in Flat River, MO, to Donald and Maxine (nee Rentfro) Polk. On January 7, 1961, she married the love of her life, David Barton, in Flat River, MO.
Barbara loved her family dearly and was the foundation and matriarch to them all. She was a hard worker with a no-nonsense attitude, someone who would tell you to “pick yourself up and keep on moving”. She adored spending time with and doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her free time Barbara loved to gamble and play slot machines, especially when they traveled to Las Vegas, as well as enjoying her romance novels. She was a treasured wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Maxine Polk; sister-in-law, Carol Polk; granddaughter, Annie Villalobos.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, David Barton; daughters, Dawn M. Barton, Deana Schardan; grandchildren, Amanda (Sean) Cleveland, Julie Ann Schardan, Cory (Siu) Latimer, Tyler (Kirstie) Atkinson; great-grandchildren, Emma Villalobos, Tanner Cleveland, Sienna Atkinson, Elliot Atkinson, Charlotte Atkinson, Rowan Atkinson, Sebastian Latimer; nieces, nephews, and many loving friends.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Shriners Hospital.
Memorial Visitation: Friday, September 8, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at Kassly-Meridith Funeral Home in Collinsville, IL.
