Lawrence Hood (1896-1939)

Lawrence Hood, De Soto, Mo., Born Aug. 9, 1896 in Desloge, Mo. Died at Veterans Hospital, Jefferson Barracks, Sat. Jan. 14, aged 43 yrs. 5 mo. 5 days.

In early life rec'd into membership with Desloge Methodist Church by Baptism. Married Bernice Armbruster 1924. He served under country's flag overseas during World War, and died years after the war due to injuries caused by having been gassed during the war.

Mourned by wife, Bernice of De Soto, Mo., parents, Aaron and Martha Hood, and brother Edwin of Desloge, Mo., sister Thelma of St. Louis, Mo., daughter Alberta of Flat River, Mo.

Funeral services at the Taylor Ave. Methodist Church, Flat River. Close personal friend, Rev. W. Keisker, former pastor Trinity Lutheran Church, in charge of service. Mrs. Keisker at organ, Mrs. R. Fiehler two appropriate vocal solos.

Burial, Lutheran Cemetery, Farmington, Mo. Boyer Service, Desloge. High regard, evidenced by abundance of floral offerings.

Bernice Clella Armbruster Hood (1902-1994)

Bernice A. Hood, 91, of Nashville, Tennessee, died Jan. 15 in Nashville. She was born Jan. 26, 1902 in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1924, she married Lawrence Hood, who preceded her in death in 1939. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Mattie and WH Armbruster; brother, James Armbruster; and her friend and step-mother, Olie Boatright.

Before retiring and moving to Nashville, Mrs. Hood was a long-time resident of Flat River, Missouri, where she had worked for Union Electric for 24 years. She also played organ for Trinity Lutheran Church in Flat River for 50 years.

She is survived by one daughter, Clara T. (Edice) Smith of Nashville; one brother, John Henry Armbruster (Verona) of St. Louis; four grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nashville, where Mrs. Hood was a member. There will be no visitation.

Graveside services will be held at the Lutheran Cemetery in Farmington, Missouri, with Rev. David Johnson officiating. Local arrangements under the direction of the C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge. Memorials may be made to the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nashville.

Aaron William Hood (1866-1951)

Aaron William Hood, son of the late Aaron and Sarah Hood was born in St. Francois County, Mo., on November 2, 1866, and departed this life on May 3, 1951, at the age of 84 years 6 months.

On December 27, 1891, he was united in marriage to Mattie Elizabeth Carrour. To this union five children were born: Edwin, Ethel, Lawrence, Gladys and Thelma. His wife and three children preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn his passing, one daughter, Thelma (Mrs. Ollie Diel) of Salinas, California


Martha Elizabeth "Mattie" Hart Carrow Hood (1865-1949)

Mrs. Aaron Hood passed away at their home in Desloge on Tuesday, October 18, 1949, at the advanced age of 83 years 11 months 14 days. Mattie E. Hart, daughter of the late John D. and Sarah Walker Hart, was born in St. Francois County, Mo., on November 14, 1865.

She was united in marriage on December 27, 1891, to Aaron Hood, who survives. They were the parents of five children, three of whom preceded her in death. Two children survive: Edwin Hood of Desloge and Mrs. Thelma Diel of Salinas, Calif.

Other relatives and friends mourn her passing.

Mrs. Hood was a member of the Desloge Methodist church where funeral services were held. Interment will be in the Herod Cemetery. C. Z. Boyer & Son Service.


William Henry Armbruster (1874-1957)

William Henry Armbruster, well known retired Flat River businessman, died in Bonne Terre Hospital, Tuesday, August 27, 1957, after a prolonged illness.

He was born in Jefferson County, Mo., June 10, 1874, and was a son of the late Lawrence and Christina Burch Armbruster. At the time of his death, he was aged 83 years, 2 months, and 17 day.

He was united in marriage to Mattie Sizemore, to which union three children were born, Bernice, James, and John Henry. His wife preceded him in death. On October 10, 1937, he was married to Olie Flieg, who survives with his daughter, Mrs. Bernice Hood, Flat River, and sons James Armbruster, Flat River, and John Henry Armbruster, St. Louis. He also leaves a sister, Theresa, Mrs. Edmund Kerruish of Festus; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, besides other relatives and many friends.

Mr. Armbruster, who lived here for 50 years, was a salesman for Schramm Grocery Co., and later was a local dealer for Phillips Oil Co.


Mattie Leona Sizemore Armbruster

Mrs. W. H. Armbruster of Flat River, died at the Bonne Terre Hospital Tuesday evening about ten o'clock following an operation at eight o'clock. She had been in ill health for about two years and became bedfast in March, 1932, as the result of a paralytic stroke. On Monday of this week complications set in and she was removed to the Bonne Terre Hospital Tuesday evening. Her children were wonderful to her during her lengthy illness and even though everything humanly possible was done she bowed to the inevitable.

The deceased was one of nine children born to James and Mary Sizemore. All of her brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

She was born at Graniteville, September 20, 1881. She spent her early years in Elvins and was married to W. H. Armbruster on July 20, 1900. Following her marriage she went to Birmingham, Alabama, to reside, later she went to Festus and returned to Elvins in 1906 and later moved to Flat River. Four children were born to this happy union.

Mattie inherited Cherokee blood from her 3rd Great-Grandfather, Edward "Tory Ned" Sizemore.
